ANNANDALE, Va. (January 26, 2009) – Joe Shewmaker connected on four three-pointers in the second half to help lead Northern Virginia Community College past Progressive Christian Academy 87-83 Monday evening at the Ernst Cultural Community Center gymnasium.
Sam Eligwe scored a team-high 22 points for NOVA, leading five players in double figures. Emanuel Willis scored 15 points, John Bayerdelle added 11, and Malik Garnim contributed 10 points.
PCA, a college prep school located in Camp Springs, Md., was led by Elgin Lee’s game high 28 points. Wesley Simmons netted 15 points, Derrick Thompson scored 14, Jameel Grace added 13 points.

When the NOVA Coaching staff went to the Nike Coaching Clinic in Connecticut a few years back they were not sure who had the correct message to improve their AAU team ( the Alexandria All-Stars). In previous years the AAS had size, skill and toughness. The current team was smaller and did not have the depth of tallent.
