NOVA beats George Washington University JV Team 90-74

The NOVA Raiders played the George Washington University JV team at Annandale Thursday November and beat a very competitive team from the George Washington. Next weekend the NOVA Radiers play in the Howard CC two day tournament. Saturday the 8th against Prince Georges Community College at 5:00 PM.  Sunday the 9th against Howard CC at 3:00 PM both games will be played at Howard CC in Columbia Maryland

NOVA RAIDERS BEAT ANNE ARUNDEL CC IN THREE PERIODS OF BASKETBALL IN A PRESEASON SCRIMMAGE

The NOVA men’s team scrimmaged the Anne Arundel Community College team on Sunday the 19th of October. This scrimmage was  a test to see if the hard work this summer and fall put in by the players prepared the Raiders to compete with one of the top JUCO conferences in the country. The NOVA team came through with flying colors The Raiders were lead by the four returning players from last season; Sam Eligwe, John Bayerdelle, Mark Philips and Joe Shewmaker. Two transfers will add much needed additional strength. The 6′9″ Brandon Allen who transferred form Virginia Wesleyan will be a force in the paint. The 6′1″ swing guard C.J. Glen transferred from Garrett Community College provides ball handling and three point skills. The Raiders are looking for great things from an excellent crop of freshman including 6′6″ Emanuel Willis the brother of a former Raider. His brother Travis was a leading scorer at NOVA and is now playing for the University of Virginia at Wise.

Radiers Take Pro Team Down to the Wire

In the first exibition game of the 2008-2009 preseason the NOVA men’s Basketball team took the local professional team, the Avengers, right to the wire in a 110 to 108 thriller. Approximately one hundred cheering fans watched the NOVA raiders come back from a first half slow start to score 72 second half points.

 

The Avengers based in Alexandria Virginia play in the EBA Men’s Professional Basketball League and home games are played at Hammond middle school in Alexandria. The Avengers line up is mostly D1 College and professional players.

 

The Raiders were lead by Sam Eligwe with 24 points; Joe Shewmaker contributed 20 points, John Bayerdelle had 17 with Mark Phillips providing leadership with defense, rebounding and 9 points.

 

The Avengers were lead by Brian Polk with 23 points who was previously a star player at Temple University and became eligible for the NBA draft. Wade Dunston stared at St. Bonaventure’s and was one of their leaders.

 

While this was an exhibition game the crowd, players and officials were as into it like a regular season game. Some of the fan’s comment were. “Wow NOVA has a great team”; “ I didn’t know community college players can play as well as pros” and “When is you next home game cause I will be here to see it”
