NOVA Raiders extend winning streak to four with win over Lord Fairfax CC

Filed under: Uncategorized — editor in chief @ 12:25 am

Nov 28- Winchester VA, The NOVA Raiders have broken the century mark for the third time this year by beating Lord Fairfax Community College 109 to 96 before a large loud crowd. The previous two games where NOVA exceeded 100 points were in the wins over Chesapeake CC and the College of Southern Maryland.

Fortunately for the Raiders a couple of dozen loyal fans made the trip to Winchester to support the team. NOVA relied, as they have all season, on a balanced scoring attack with eight players scoring and four in double figures. The raiders started out slowly allowing Lord Fairfax to score on some easy buckets and then turning the ball over on offense. NOVA turned it around in the latter part of the second half to take a six point lead into the break.

In the second half NOVA maintained the lead through out extending it to almost 30 points. Some sloppy play allowed Lord Fairfax to close the lead to ten points at one point. Lord Fairfax will be coming to play at NOVA in Annandale on December 8th which should be a “Barn Burner”.

The NOVA Raiders are now 1-0 in VCCS Conference play and 6-2 overall for the season

The former NOVA Raiders Mark and Sam are both on the Varsity team at the University of Virgina, Wise.

Sam is #23 Mark is #25

Mark has been seeing a lot of playing time and shooting a high percentage from the field and foul line. Sam will be eligible, based on the transfer rules, in mid December. The entire NOVA family wishes Sam and Mark great luck on a successful season. Watch out when Sam becomes eligible. We predict that Sam will spearhead a wining season for UVA. We also predict great things from Mark on both ends of the floor along with excellence on the boards.

Nov 20- LaPlata MD, The NOVA Raiders extended their wining streak to three with a win over the College of Southern Maryland last night by a score of 104-93. NOVA’s record for the season goes to 5-2 with the only loses coming from nationally ranked Cecil and Montgomery – Germantown.

The Raiders started off slowly against CSM with a rather soft defensive effort and a lethargic offense in the first 10 mnutes of the game. In the later part of the first half the Raiders got boost from Joe Scorah with two 3 pointers and 10 first half points. Cordero Holt two three pointers and 18 first half points to give NOVA a 56-47 lead.

Nov 17- The NOVA Raiders go to 4-2 with a big win over the Massanuttan Military Academy which is a post graduate prep school. This is the first time in modern history that NOVA has beaten Massanuttan. In most seasons, Massanuttan will have three or four future NCAA D1 players that need to work on grades or hone their basketball skills to get to the next level.

The two loses this season have come to Nationally ranked opponents. For the second time in four years all NOVA players scored. That is fourteen players on the score board. Jermaine Wright lead all Raiders with 14 points. NOVA came out strong with a pressure man to man defense and never let Massanuttan get started leading at half time 42 to 24.

Chesapeake CC Coach Reggie Williams comments on the game

Filed under: Uncategorized — editor in chief @ 1:46 am

The former Georgetown U and NBA star player now Chesapeake CC Head Men’s Basketball Coach thoughts after loss to NOVA:

Rockeem Harris, a freshman guard from Kent County High held to five points in the Howard game, exploded for a team-high 27 points in the loss to Northern Virginia. Harris also had four assists and two steals.

“Rockeem did a pretty good job getting everybody else into the flow of the offense,” said Williams.

Freshman forward Andre Dickerson (Woodbridge High) added 17 points and Sanders chipped in 15, but it wasn’t enough to offset NoVa’s relentless running game.

“Our transition defense wasn’t very good,” conceded Williams. “We weren’t balancing the floor very well on offense. Once the shot went up, they (NoVa) ran it down our throats. We needed to run our passing game better to neutralize their fast break.”

The NOVA Raiders men’s basketball team played possibly the best weekend of basketball in the team’s history by wining back to back games against two of the best Maryland JUCO NJCAA teams over the weekend.

On Saturday the Raiders took on the NJCAA Division I team Chesapeake College coached by Georgetown and NBA Star Reggie Williams. The Raiders were prepared for a war deploying a tough man to man pressure defense that surprised Chesapeake with the amount of pressure on the ball and one pass away holding them to 35 first half points. NOVA on the other had three players with double digit first half points from Codero Holt, Shaun Ingram and Krizzio Washington as part of the 56 first half production. The Raiders came out strong in the second half and delivered Coach Williams his first college loss. The Final score was:

At half time it was tided at 43. The second half was a repeat of the first half with the lead going back in forth. With a size and bench strength advantage NOVA had they wore down the Dragons. Raiders lose a close one to the Nationally ranked Montgomery College

Filed under: Uncategorized — editor in chief @ 1:03 am

The NOVA raiders lead at half time by six but could not hold on the lead and lost by a couple of buckets to pre-season national ranked Montgomery College Germantown.

Cordero Holt lead the Raiders with 21, Krizzio Washington had 18 points and Brad Dutton 8 points, 4 blocks and 12 rebounds

Here is what MCG had to say

November 4, 2009 The MC Germantown Men’s Basketball Team were able to pull out a win against a very talented Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) team by making 22 out of 23 free throws. NOVA attempted to use its size over the smaller Germantown team. That was a very talented NOVA squad. It actually was one of the most talented teams I’ve ever coached against. Our guys were just resilient and made an amazing 22 of 23 free throws,” said Coach Joyner.
